The Gandak Barrage’s 36 gates opened as the water level rose, putting 20 villages in Nawalparasi at risk.


: The Gandaki Barrage’s 56 gates have all opened after the water level surged above the danger zone. According to Tara Singh Thapa of the Land Acquisition and Public Relations Office, the gates were opened when the water level in the 500,000 cusecs capacity barrage reached 480,000 cusecs.

He stated that crossing 400,000 cusecs of water is considered extreme danger. He that if the water level continues to increase, the B-Gab dam would burst and the settlement will be swamped.

Rising flood levels have put twenty settlements in West Nawalparasi at risk. Meanwhile, the administration has cautioned residents to be cautious as the Gandak Barrage and rivers have begun to flood.

Dharmendra Mishra, Chief District Officer, stated that security personnel have been maintained on standby for immediate rescue and damage reduction in high-risk regions.
