Nepal has received 1.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccinations given by the US government under the COVAX . On Monday morning, a plane Johnson & Johnson immunizations landed at Tribhuvan International Airport.

The vaccines were handed out to Health Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha during a brief ceremony at the airport by US Ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador Berry stated that the “gift” from the American people is solely for the purpose of saving lives.

“I’m proud that the United States is Nepal’s largest single-country giver of #Covid-19 aid. In a tweet, Ambassador Berry said, “ gift, on behalf of the American people, has the primary objective of saving lives.”

Today we’re giving Nepal enough #JNJ COVID19 vaccines via #COVAX to fully vaccinate 1.5 million people. I’m proud that the U.S. is the largest single-country donor of #COVID19 assistance to Nepal. While other vaccines require two doses, Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccines just require one dose and are effective against the delta form. The government had previously attempted to obtain vaccines directly from the manufacturer.
